About Paul Michael Riegelhaupt, M.D., Ph.D.
Paul M. Riegelhaupt joined the New York Presbyterian/ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ Medical Center faculty in 2015. After undergraduate training in Biology at MIT, he completed an MD/PhD program at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His PhD training in the laboratory of Dr. Myles Akabas examined the physiology and biophysics of malarial purine transporters, focusing on purine uptake proteins as targets for novel antimalarial drugs. Following medical school, Dr. Riegelhaupt completed a research track residency in Anesthesiology at the University of California San Francisco. His post-doctoral work at UCSF in Dr. Daniel Minor’s lab addressed the basic biophysical properties of tandem pore potassium channels. Dr. Riegelhaupt currently splits his time between clinical work as a member of the ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ Neuroanesthesia group and continued basic scientific studies of potassium channel physiology. He also serves as an associate program director for the anesthesiology residency program.
